The road to my current project, it started as an animationfilm about a man who accidently discovers a new world through his bathroom mirror but developed into a closer look of the new world.
I started with sketches based on the great work of for Katie Scott to get inspired for the vibe I want
More sketches and illustrations followed
Some early animation parts to figure the style between the fantasy underwaterworld inside the mirror and the real world
While continuing on the animation i felt like it wasn’t going exactly where i wanted it to do.
So…why not start over? And I did. I’m elliminating the part before and after Bob (the character) discovers the underwater world and just want to show the world with a continuous transformation.
From watching documentaries I wanted to put a moment in my short animation where it feels like an ending but then you see things continue in a different way (in the middle of the film, fade to black but a new animation starts shortly after). Documentaries like planet earth sometimes do this as well, make a viewer believe there is an end to something but things always keep continuing in a different way (for example, the carcas of an animal still serves purposes for different animals or life forms) and so life in itself is one big continuous cycle.
Some things didn’t make the cut but the ideas are still in the film. I didn’t like the animation of the crab for example, but I used a different technique and added that one to the film.
